FAQ

How do I know if you can help me?

Okay. First off, we want you to know that a lot of people come to us that have a complex list of symptoms and they’re often working with several other doctors and specialists, BUT they’re still not feeling well.

It’s important you understand what makes our approach different.

We understand how important this roadmap to recovery is for you and we know living with pain and watching your health decline, facing a future where aging means more symptoms with more medications or future surgery – is a terrible option.

Our work offers you a different way forward.

There are a few key differences in how we approach helping you reclaim your health.

First, whether you’re in a health consult or a massage treatment with us, we address and correct poor function in the body rather than suggest altering your symptoms or your labs with medication – at least as a long-term solution. We consider your whole person in order to understand your pain and other concerns more fully.

Each step of your journey with us will help you implement scientifically-proven methods to restore body function, build a foundation for your health, and address the underlying cause of your health decline.

It’s like getting turn-by-turn directions. You can’t make it to the destination if you don’t have all the directions or if they are out of order in any way.

Through our work, we’ve helped hundreds of people learn how to change the future of their health so the things they hope are going to be true in five years can become a reality.

Within our building, we are neighbors with the Nashua Dental Group. As you go through the main entrance, our office will be on the right.

How do I set up an initial appointment?

We begin every journey at our clinic with a Complimentary Discovery Call to make sure you’re a good fit for our services.

This helps us learn more about the pain or other issues you are struggling with. You’ll receive thoughtful feedback about your individual situation. We will listen and provide suggestions to help direct your care.

If you are a good fit for Dave, you can schedule you first treatment during that call. Treatments are usually one hour long, and you should plan to arrive at least 5 minutes early to use a restroom and give yourself space to arrive more fully before starting treatment.

An initial assessment and case review with Dr. Kilgore are scheduled during the initial Discovery Call if you’re a good fit for naturopathic medicine. Your initial consult can be problem-focused or comprehensive by request. The first visit is a one-hour appointment with the doctor but you should plan on 90 minutes in the office, so you have time to schedule future appointments and complete the orientation to your individualized care plan that day.

As soon as we book your appointment with Dave or Dr. Jen, you’ll receive an invitation to access our electronic health records system where you can find any notes from us and other shared documents. You can also share documents with us directly through your portal. If you’re working with the doctor, it’s helpful if you provide recent labs from the past one year when possible.

You’ll need to fill out a few questionnaires prior to your initial visit. If these forms are not completed 2 days prior to the visit, your appointment will be cancelled, and David or Dr. Jen will reach out to reschedule at a later date.

What can I expect from my first visit?

We set aside 60 minutes for your first visit to get a complete history, perform a physical exam, decide on appropriate lab work, answer your questions, educate you about and design an individual treatment plan for you. Once you establish care, ongoing follow up is always necessary.

In most cases, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled every 2-6 weeks to discuss lab results and evaluate the progress of initial therapies. Follow up visits are 30 minutes long.

Is my insurance company going to pay for your services?

No. They’re not going to pay for it.

In fact, it seems to us like a bit of a misnomer (at least to us) that this service is called health insurance at all. Let’s consider this for a second – why aren’t they going to pay for it? They’re not going to pay for it because that’s not a covered service.

Well, why is it not a covered service? Because they’re not invested in helping you get healthy, they’re trying to cover the medical bills for you when you get sick.

Then why isn’t it called Sick Care? I don’t know. It could be, this would be more accurate.

Health consulting is not a service Health Insurance companies provide, and we are unable to bill your health insurance company directly for the work that we do. You must be invested in your health, yourself.

We do accept HSA cards and Flexible Spending accounts and our services contribute towards your insurance deductible. We’re not contracted with health insurances so that our doctors can provide the care you need and are not limited in their approach or the time they spend with you at each visit.

We offer a Superbill, which is an invoice with insurance coding that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement on any out of network benefits. You can call your insurance provider to ask if “Naturopathic” consults are covered in your out-of-network benefits, and at what percentage.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

We require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. A full appointment fee will be billed for all late cancellations and no shows.

What age ranges do you work with?

We treat entire families and client ages range from 2 years to 82 years. We can help you heal no matter your age. Massage therapy and naturopathic medicine can be appropriate for kids in sports or other performance activities or children living with chronic disease, unexplained malaise, cyclic vomiting, recurring and frequent fevers, gastrointestinal or rheumatologic conditions.

Teens suffering from depression or anxiety can be helped using certain neuro-emotional techniques, autogenic training, and holistic counselling techniques. Adults experiencing health decline are candidates for massage and naturopathic services into a ripe old age to help you recover and build longevity.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct practice of medicine that emphasizes prevention and the self-healing process to treat each person holistically and improve outcomes while lowering health care costs.

Naturopathic doctors are educated and trained in accredited naturopathic medical colleges. They diagnose, prevent and treat acute and chronic illness, restore and establish optimal health by supporting the person’s inherent self-healing process.

Rather than just suppressing symptoms, naturopathic doctors work to identify underlying causes of illness, and develop personalized treatment plans to address them. Their Therapeutic Order™, identifies the natural order in which all therapies should be applied to provide the greatest benefit with the least potential for damage.

We work with individual people and entire families. We support and encourage you to have your family members engaged while you’re embarking on your healing journey to help ensure your success. How exactly are Naturopathic doctors educated, trained, and licensed?

Accredited naturopathic medical schools are four-year, in-residence, hands-on medical programs consisting of a minimum of 4,100 hours of class and clinical training.

During naturopathic medical school, students are educated in the biomedical sciences as well as the latest advances in science in combination with natural approaches to therapy. They also study disease prevention and clinical techniques.

In addition to a standard medical curriculum, schools require their graduates to complete four years of training in disciplines such as clinical nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, physical medicine, and counseling.

For at least the final two years of their medical program, naturopathic medical students intern in clinical settings under the close supervision of licensed professionals.

Licensure and certification are the highest forms of regulation. They are designed to protect the public by ensuring that certain minimum competency requirements are met. They also set standards for the profession.

Currently 20 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands offer licensure or certification for naturopathic doctors. The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians maintains a list of states and territories that license or certify naturopathic doctors.

Get to know yourself and your body better so you can provide detailed information about symptoms and how you feel.

Is there anything I can do in between visits to help me get better results?

What should I expect during my massage therapy session?

At the beginning of every session you’ll have a chance to discuss your current needs and determine goals for treatment. Ask for help when and where you need it! Let your therapist know what’s going on so they can be considerate of your individual situation at each visit.

Lighting and music can be adjusted to provide environment that helps you relax your mind and be more receptive to the bodywork. Please vocalize your preferences and we will do our very best to accommodate as much as possible.

As we work with areas of tension and pain, there may be times when pressure can feel intense. For that reason, it’s important to communicate your level of tolerance and let the therapist know if a technique or pressure point is feeling painful or “edgy” at any time. At the end of the session, we will reassess and create a plan for ongoing self-care in between visits.

How do I make the most of my massage?

It’s a good idea to hydrate well before and after your session just like you would before and after a workout. Communicate if pressure is uncomfortable at any time so we can make adjustments when necessary. Take deep breaths throughout the session and especially when discomfort arises.

Deep breathing calms your nervous system which will affect your response to pain allowing it to become more tolerable. Try to leave concerns and distractions not pertaining to your massage outside the treatment room. This allows you to be fully present to the state of your mind and body and receptive healing.
